I finally had time to sit down and enjoy this properly. It’s beautiful, Julian and evokes the sighs, groans and bubbles of my own lake, currently encased in ice. It has always felt like a living thing, its icy skin rising and falling with its steady breath.
Thanks for reminding all of us about the endless symphony that is the natural world, coupled with your starkly beautiful images.

It’s great to go back and read your introduction. I don’t know why I haven’t before, except that usually when I sit down specifically to read it’s with a book in my hand. I’m so glad you began this blog, Julian. I may never otherwise have encountered your unique and humbling work. Even here, at the beginning, you remind me to see my town itself with open eyes, a task I find particularly difficult after nearly 30 years of wishing just this and that were different. But you have reminded me and I will approach the view with renewed effort to see anew, again.

Julian,
Found your blog when looking online directions for setting up my blog spot. What a beautiful and peaceful site. I plan to visit it often. I am preparing for writing a book with a friend about our experiences with Alzheimer’s. My friend and I both lost our husbands to the disease this past fall. Reading your beautiful words reminds me of sitting in my newly found Unitarian Church and feeling that I am at home at last!

It’s nice to meet someone who also appreciates nature and captures that beauty in your photos and words. I will be back often!

Great to hear from you, Amy-Lynn! I can well imagine the snow of northern Ontario as I remember a fair bit from the southern end of the province. But yes, in conversations with family and friends in Ontario and the Maritimes it seems that winter is a different season these days. I thought long about Bentley after researching this post and came to a similar conclusion: of the care and sensitiveness of one to see through such passions. Delighted you liked the post, and hope all is well with you in your corner of the globe.

Wonderful Julian, really enjoyed this and so beautifully written and loved the photos, I could really just visualize it even though I have never seen nor experienced such beauty! May seem silent but you truly brought this lake to life and I am sure you are enjoying every moment of this enchanting winter and ofcourse the Prespa Lake.
